Let's Play Webcomic

Let’s Play

Let’s Play by Mongie is a romance webcomic on LINE Webtoons. It updates once a week on Tuesdays.

Let’s Play debuted on November 7th, 2017.

This is another webcomic I’m currently obsessed with. Once again, I’ll try to do it justice.

The Breakdown

(No Spoilers! – I hope.)

Sam — our narrator — is an aspiring game developer, whose first game takes a gigantic nosedive in ratings after a well-known gaming personality rips it apart in a live video. Sam is awkward, anxious and prone to panic attacks. She also has an adorable dog (just like me!).

Marshall Law is an over the top gamer, with over 3 million followers of his own ‘viewtube’ channel where he reviews/plays games. Marshall is outgoing, good-looking, and has just moved in next door to Sam— to her utter dismay.

Sam wants nothing to do with the man who ruined her career before it had even begun, however (of course) their paths continue to collide with each other.

My Thoughts

I really am a sucker for that good old “opposites attract” formula, and it is in full effect in this webcomic. Sam is, again, a protagonist I highly identify with. Her awkwardness is absolutely endearing. Her attraction, and sequential denial of said attraction, to Marshall is adorable and so very relatable — we’ve all been there!

The author’s art style is amazing. I love the way she interprets Sam’s overwhelming emotions and turns them into personified beings looming over her or cowering behind her. Sam’s life is mundane from our onlookers’ perspectives, but once we’re allowed inside her thought process everything is exaggerated to the extreme. This is one of the main attributes of anxiety disorders and experiencing panic attacks, and the author illustrates it perfectly.

Webcomic Details

Webtoon Description: Sam wants to be a game developer, but before her career can get started, a popular gaming personality posts a video of himself playing her first game and gives it a bad review. To make matters worse, she soon finds out he’s her new neighbor! A story about gaming, memes, and social anxiety. Come for the plot, stay for the doggo.
